Some poetic thoughts. Poetry (the term comes from a variant of the Greek term, poiesis, “making”) is a form of literature that uses aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language. Anyone can write poetry because poems come from the heart and the mind. Your idea of a great poem might be different from mine. 

This can be a poem.

Red, blue, golden hue

outside my window

a splendid view.

It is all about how we see the world. Writers, please. Write poetry. It will help you in your novels, your picture books, whatever you write because it stretches the mind and shows detail in a way that you never dreamed.

Keep a poetry journal. And write things besides poetry in it. Jot down any interesting words or phrases, feelings, experiences, and sentences. Hue is in mine. And I just used it. Tape pictures and words that inspire you on the pages. Here are some great writerly websites for you:
